How the Workbench Operates

Architecture designed for offline pool deck environments

HeatRoad Meet stores all meet data locally on your iPhone or iPad. When you create a new meet, you configure lane count, course type, warm-up duration, and average heat intervals. The app calculates session timelines and projects finish times based on your parameters.

Athlete rosters are built manually or populated from the included 60-athlete demo. Each athlete entry includes name, team affiliation, age, and gender. Seed times attach to specific events and drive the automatic seeding engine when you press Auto-Seed.

The heat grid editor shows a visual lanes-by-heats canvas where you drag athlete cards between positions. Conflict detection runs in real-time—missing seed times, age mismatches, and double-bookings trigger warnings before athletes reach the blocks. Undo functionality lets you revert changes during live editing.

Essential Capabilities

Tools built for coaches, clerks, and meet directors

Automatic Heat Seeding

Fastest-to-center and straight-seed algorithms place swimmers by seed time. Configure dual-meet or invitational lane patterns, set empty-lane padding, and re-seed individual events without affecting other heats.

High-Contrast Clerk Board

Landscape deck mode displays large names and lane numbers optimized for outdoor reading. ON DECK and IN THE WATER stage indicators update as you advance heats. Screen stays awake throughout the session.

PDF and CSV Exports

Generate psych sheets sorted by entry time and heat sheets organized by lane order. Export seeded grids as CSV for timing system import. Share via AirPrint or system share sheet without cloud upload.

Session Timeline Projection

Visualize session density across time slots. The app estimates start times for each event and heat based on your interval settings, dive-over delays, and awards breaks. Overtime detection warns when sessions exceed planned duration.

Drag-and-Drop Heat Editor

Move athletes between lanes and heats with touch gestures. Long-press interactions reveal detailed athlete info. Conflict warnings appear instantly when you create scheduling issues. Toggle lane 1 orientation for bulkhead pools.

Optional Dual-Meet Scoring

Track place-to-points conversions and live team totals. Scoring table can be hidden for invitational meets. Results update as you enter finishing places without manual calculation.

About the Developer

HeatRoad Meet was built to address the chaotic paper-based heat assignment process at age-group swim competitions. Designed by someone familiar with the needs of parent volunteer clerks and small club meet hosts, the app prioritizes offline reliability and glanceable deck interfaces over cloud sync and complex account systems. Version 1.0.2 optimized resource usage for better performance during long sessions.
